Hello! My name is Matthew James, and I’m a Japanese language tutor based in the UK.
I’ve been teaching languages for over 8 years, and I have worked with students of all ages and levels. I also have experience in educational publishing, so if you’re aiming for a qualification like the JLPT, I can help you prepare effectively.
In my lessons, I focus on building your confidence and keeping things enjoyable. I use a clear structure, fun warm-ups, and lots of practical speaking and listening activities—because learning a language should be exciting, not stressful!
Whether you’re learning for travel, exams, work, or just for fun, I’ll tailor each lesson to your goals. I also bring in cultural insights from my 18 years of living in Japan to help make the language really come alive.
